New cadets are enrolling!

In the coming months, we are likely to have an influx of new cadets. This means that you are expected to act as mentors and to be good shipmates, sharing your knowledge and teaching them what you know. Remember when you first started and all the new faces and the information coming at you? Well, now we have many new faces and we are relying on veteran Leage and Sea Cadets to carry throw down a security line and help their shipmates out. Working together we can all achieve more. Help them to feel welcome and a part of the unit.

A word about hormones, respect, etc:

As we acquire more male and female Sea Cadets, we must maintain our understanding that the Sea Cadet program is NOT a dating service. If you are here to find your next girlfriend or boyfriend, then this isn't the proper place for you. When you are on duty, you are expected act like a cadet and not be oogling the opposite gender. This has been noticed recently and will not be tolerated, per the policies of the program. It sets the unit off course and interferes with the safety of our unit if we allow our hormones to rule our brains so that we cannot effectively exercise our duties when expected. It also interferes with the chain of command if your love interest is above or below you in rate. Remember, there is NO FRATERNIZATION in the Sea Cadet program. We have taught on what this means. If you still don't understand, ask or look it up. The hammer will land hard if I continue to see examples of male/female interactions that are not duty based. You do not want to meet with me about this, I guarantee you, as I have no tolerance for it and I will not be gentle. I have removed cadets for violating zero tolerance poicies and, though I don't enjoy it, I will do what is best for the unit if the situation presents itself to me. Additionally, if new cadets join that you have known in your non-cadet life and have had negative interactions with, please be very aware that we hit the reset button upon their enlistment with the program. I cannot deny a cadet that you have had a problem with in the past for reasons not related to the program. That is your past. So now is a wonderful time to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and exercise the art of forgiveness and moving on. Everything starts fresh here.

Having said that, now read below a gentler message.

As a cadet, you are expected to maintain a respectful demeaner to all those with whom you come into contact. This means, in addition to unit staff/officers and fellow cadets, that you are expected to show respect to your siblings and parents. I am aware of more than you may think I am and my expectations for self discipline and respect for all is paramount. I have very high standards to which I hold every member of our units and I expect positive attitudes and behavior in all of your interactions. This does not mean that you cannot have negative emotions. It does, however, mean that I expect you to exercise your emotions in an appropriate manner. If you are having a difficult time in your lives with friends, siblings, homework, etc., let somebody know. I care for each and every one of my staff and cadets and I don't want anybody feeling like they don't have an outlet. You are part of something bigger than yourself and you have numerous resources around you for help. Be sure to rememeber you have shipmates here for you. Please don't suffer in silence. Let somebody know so that you can get the help you need. You are supported here and I am proud of each and every one of you. You are my shipmates and nobody gets left behind!

NEW REQUIREMENT FOR DRILL ATTENDANCE:

From this point forward, in order to attend drill, you now must turn in your efforts on coursework and/or community service. You must deliver one or the other (or both if you wish) to be allowed at drill.
Considering you MUST attend 80 % of drills, this requirement is as important as having all of your uniform items and your hydration at drill.

Basically, your ticket into drill is your coursework or community service completed since the previous drill.

REMINDER: Make sure you are working on your coursework only AFTER you complete your school required homework! Acadeemic grades must be a "C" average or be
