UPDATE:

Mr. George Horvath, Fireman First Class has gone to be with his Heavenly Father and his shipmates .

Please say a prayer for him and remember the service he did for his country!

We will miss you and never forget all you have taught us, Sir!

In Honor of:

FC1 George Horvath

USS Indianapolis Survivor

Mr. George Horvath served aboard the USS Chester during World War II and was transferred to the USS Indianapolis in 1945 as she left Mare Island to deliver the Nuclear Bomb components to Tinian Island in the Phillipines.  Upon completion of their TOP SECRET Mission, the USS Indianapolis was sunk in the waters off Guam on July 30, 1945.  George and approx. 996 shipmates went into the water- he is one of 317 that were rescued 5 days later, having been subjected to Shark Attacks, Dehydration and Starvation!

Mr. Horvath, referred to affectionately as "George" by our cadets, has served unselfishly after his horrific experience in the Pacific Ocean by travelling across the country telling the chilling tale of the things he and his shipmates endured during the sinking and rescue of the USS Indianapolis and its survivors.

We found Mr. Horvath at our local Target on Veterans Day weekend in 2014.  He immediately found a home with our cadets and has been very active in helping them understand the history of World War II and his service in the US Navy.

Thank you for your service, shipmate!  We will continue to Stand the Watch over you, as long as you are with us and beyond!
