The United States Navy League Cadet Corps is a military minded program that teaches kids aged 12-14 basic knowledge about the US military with a heavy emphasis on the US Navy.  Here you will get to wear US Navy approved uniforms and get to do things our US Navy's sailors get to do during their careers.  Navy History, Military Bearing and Honors, Courtesies, Respect and Discipline are all components of the program sponsored by the United States Navy League- a civilian organization that supports the Merchant Marine  and US Navy.  The US Navy League helps the USNLCC to train kids in naval traditions and customs and ensures the program meets National Standards and practices.  Here kids learn life enhancing skills such as teamwork, knot tying, rope handling, resume writing, handwriting, ship nomenclature, first aid, fire prevention and many other things to help them in their future endeavors.  The USNLCC places a great deal of emphasis on the US military and the US Navy, but their is no obligation placed on the cadet to join any service.  The program is intended to help mold young persons into responsible, caring, respectful US citizens capable of achieving anything they choose to do.

Is this different than the Boy Scouts?

Most Definitely!  In the USNLCC kids get to wear official US Navy uniforms, recognizable by any US servicemember whether presently serving or having previously served.  Sanctioned by the US Navy League, USNLCC is the only organization in the country that allows people to wear official uniforms US Navy Sailors wear.  When in uniform, cadets are expected to be just as knowledgeable and respectful as a US Navy Sailor is.  This is the only program in the country that allows cadets to receive  a military identification card which allows them to attend advanced trainings on US Military bases around the country.

Are the kids covered by insurance?

A $1,000,000 Insurance protection policy is provided by the USNLCC and the cost is included in the enrollment fees.  The program has been in existence since the 1950's and has the confidence of insurers of being a very safety focused, well organized program for young persons desiring to experience realistic training, helping prepare them for the career of their choosing when they reach adulthood.

Are there any fees?

As with any youth program there are fees and expenses associated with the USNCC and USNLCC.  All the fees help pay for uniforms, insurances, training materials and administrative costs associated with the program.  The enrollment fees do not include personal items, field trips, travel expenses and other misc. expenses cadets will have over the course of their enlistment.
