Fireman First Class George Horvath, USN 1945 USS Indianapolis survived the horrific tragedy of World War II. Our unit is sponsored by our shipmate and his family, having adopted and sponsored our unit, taking a personal interest in ensuring these cadets get "the real story" from someone who "has been there and done that!"
George Horvath enjoys spending time with our cadets teaching them about the USS Indianapolis and the ordeal he survived.
George takes great pride in teaching our cadets about the US Navy and the importance it plays in our country's activities around the world.
A Nationally recognized expert on the USS Indianapolis Disaster and a representative of the USS Indianapolis Survivors Association, Ms. Roller visits the unit annually to talk about our shipmates who survived and how all the events came to be that fateful day on 30 July 1945.
Using interactive visual aids and veteran testimonies, Ms. Roller explains how the USS Indianapolis sinking affects our lives today as "The World's Greatest Generation" slowly fades into history.
George raised 2 Desert Tortoises during his lifetime- this male is Tiberius.
Myrtle makes her way through George's backyard looking for shade and water, trying to escape the hot Arizona summer.
Cadets are required and encouraged to perform community service work and assist veterans who cannot or need help taking care of everyday chores.
Cadets learn how to perform everyday chores they may not get to do at their own homes by caring for veterans in need, volunteering their time to learn life skills they may need as they mature.
The Horvath Family, pictured here with our unit staff and escorts, help our unit to remember and honor George's sacrifices for his country and the US Navy by sponsoring the unit and funding opportunities for cadets who would otherwise miss out on some of the fun things we get to do....
At 7am on Easter Sunday, 2014 George left this planet to fulfil another mission intended for him. He challenges us to keep our ship moving forward and ensuring the memories of him and his shipmates never die. To this day we will never forget the service and gratitude George gave for our country and will wear the name Training Ship Indianapolis with pride in his honor. Fair Winds and Following Seas, Shipmate. We miss you so much.
Cadets learn how to present colors and render respect at funerals, processions and special events throughout the year. Supported by veterans organizations such as the Patriot Guard Riders, cadets mature into adulthood with mentors, life coaches and other people they meet during their "enlistment" with the USNLCC.

Cadets are expected to maintain military bearing while in uniform and promoting the USNLCC.
Cadets are encouraged to learn from "those who have gone before to defend freedom and democracy around the world."
Cadets meet with veterans from all walks of life and get to learn about the service they did for our country.
Uniforms have different parts and specific requirements in order to wear them properly. Do you know the regulations for wearing salt and peppers?
Cadets learn to treat all kinds of injuries- from the most severe to minor incidents.
Cadets are taught how to treat a wide variety of wounds that look "realistic". I'm not sure how a plastic fork makes this kind of wound, but I am confident our cadets know how to deal with it properly!
Using realistic moulage techniques and applications, cadets learn how to deal with and treat horrific injuries so they are prepared to deal with disaster when it strikes.
Trainings are kept interesting and fun for cadets, reaching out to their interests and current culture trends ensuring they are engaged and actively participating in the learning process.
We got to play with our friends....
Cadets get to try "the real deal"- using actual equipment and tools they will need to perform their duties when called upon.
